Double leg, 2 butterfly passes

I am not going to blog each class from now on. I feel it is holding me back. I will blog when it seems important.

Last night we worked a double leg that I really like. We have done this both gi and no gi. Last night was no gi.

Double leg:
Snap their head down and when they try to resist and stay upright, do a penetration step with the forward leg so your knee is between their feet (knee leg). Put your hips under your torso so that your spine is vertical and your face is in their hip directly, and snake both hands around behind their knees, hands between and close together. Don't grab behind the knees, but rather have your elbows behind their knees. This way if they back out, you have some room to recapture their legs with your hands.
Take your other leg and step around behind their leg from outside and get the outside of your shin to the floor and drive that way (shin leg).

Catch yourself on your hand on the shin leg side so that you do not bump your head, and kick your knee leg over their leg to avoid half guard. We worked it that they got butterfly guard, so that we could work the butterfly passes, however, it is possible to move to side mount directly. I will leave the method to the reader.

This works best if your both have the right foot forward, or both have the left foot forward, instead of left-right.

Pass 1:
Choose which side to pass toward. I will use left for this example.

Take your head and put it on their belly to your right side with your left ear listening to their bowels. Pin their hips this way for a moment with your shoulder. Take your right hand and put the palm on the floor, and their left thigh in your armpit and clamp your right elbow down on their thigh and toward your right knee.

Clamp your left armpit over their other thigh similarly, except that your hand should reach back toward a point between your feet (see pass 2). Drive your left leg up like a cartwheel, followed by your right. Drive your left hand toward your feet to control their right leg. Land in side control.

Pass 2:

Similar beginning, however, your left hand grabs their instep and holds it to their butt.

Straighten both feet to that you are on three points, both feet and your left shoulder in their belly. Arch over their legs and land on the soles of your feet with your face upward and both arms hugging their respective legs. Drive your shoulder into their belly and arch your hips. You can turn to the left and bring your knee to their side for side control. This is not as awkward or difficult as it sounds.
